− 18%InclusiveSubtracting 18% from an inclusive price
₹1,180 − 18% is ₹967.60, not ₹1,000. Divide by 1.18 instead, or choose "Includes GST" in the calculator.
The right formulaAdd GST to a price, or take it out of an amount that already includes it. You get the taxable value, the CGST + SGST, IGST or UTGST split and the invoice total in words, all worked out in your browser.
Type an amount, say whether it already includes GST, and pick the rate and place of supply. The breakdown updates as you type and copies as a ready-made summary.
Everything depends on one question: does the price you have already include GST? A price quoted "+ GST" is exclusive, so you add the tax on top. A price quoted "incl. GST", like most shop prices, is inclusive, so the tax is already inside it and has to be worked out backwards.
GST = price × rate ÷ 100
Total = price + GST
At 18%: total = price × 1.18. On ₹2,268, GST is ₹408.24 and the total ₹2,676.24.
Base = total × 100 ÷ (100 + rate)
GST = total − base
The base is the taxable value. At 18%, base = total ÷ 1.18, so ₹1,180 splits into ₹1,000 and ₹180 of GST.
The most common mistakeTaking 18% off an inclusive price. 18% of ₹1,180 is ₹212.40, so ₹1,180 − 18% gives ₹967.60, not ₹1,000. The GST inside an inclusive amount is 18 ÷ 118, about 15.25% of it.
The first three are real VirtualCloud prices, which are always shown before GST; the rest show inclusive amounts and another rate. Each one gives the same result in the calculator above.
| Example | Taxable value | GST | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orbit hosting, 12 months, same state | ₹2,268.00 | ₹408.24 | ₹2,676.24 |
| VC-2 VPS, 1 month, other state | ₹849.00 | ₹152.82 | ₹1,001.82 |
| .in domain, 1 year, same state | ₹499.00 | ₹89.82 | ₹588.82 |
| ₹1,180 including 18% GST | ₹1,000.00 | ₹180.00 | ₹1,180.00 |
| ₹999 including 18% GST | ₹846.61 | ₹152.39 | ₹999.00 |
| ₹10,000 plus 5% GST | ₹10,000.00 | ₹500.00 | ₹10,500.00 |
Within one state, the GST column splits in half: the Orbit invoice shows CGST ₹204.12 and SGST ₹204.12, and the .in domain ₹44.91 each. The VPS sold to another state shows a single IGST line of ₹152.82.
The rate is the same either way; what changes is how it's split and which government collects it. Compare the supplier's state with the place of supply:
| Situation | Taxes on the invoice | At 18% |
|---|---|---|
| Same state | CGST + SGST, the rate split equally | 9% + 9% |
| Different states | IGST at the full rate, collected by the Centre | 18% |
| Within a UT without a legislature | CGST + UTGST, the rate split equally | 9% + 9% |
UTGST applies in Chandigarh, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu. Delhi, Puducherry and Jammu & Kashmir have their own legislatures, so they use SGST like a state.
Hosting, VPS, domains, SSL certificates and other IT services are taxed at 18%. Every VirtualCloud price on this site is shown before that 18%, and the invoice lists the GST on its own line, as CGST + SGST or IGST depending on the state in your billing details.
A GSTIN is 15 characters: a two-digit state code, the business's 10-character PAN, an entity number, the letter Z and a check character. The first two digits must match the state in your billing address, or the invoice will carry the wrong type of GST. Some common codes:
Add your GSTIN in the client area before an invoice is raised and it's printed on that invoice and every renewal. Invoices carrying your GSTIN are reported in our GST returns, so they show up in your GSTR-2B. The step-by-step is in billing, GST invoices and payment methods.
Most goods and services now sit in the 5% or 18% slab, with 40% for a short list of luxury and sin goods; the calculator has a button for each. Invoices dated before the change may still show 12% or 28%: choose Other and type the rate. Some items are exempt or taxed at other special rates, so check the rate that applies to yours before you rely on a figure.
The calculator works in paise and rounds the GST to the nearest paisa. When the tax comes to an odd number of paise, the extra paisa goes to the CGST line so the two halves always add up to the total: on ₹999 including GST, that's CGST ₹76.20 and SGST ₹76.19, ₹152.39 in all. Accounting software that rounds each half on its own can differ by a paisa, so follow whichever method your books already use.
The total in words follows the Indian system, in lakhs (1,00,000) and crores (1,00,00,000), the way invoices and cheques write it: ₹2,676.24 is "Rupees Two Thousand Six Hundred Seventy Six and Twenty Four Paise Only", and ₹1,18,000 is "Rupees One Lakh Eighteen Thousand Only". Copy summary puts all the figures on your clipboard, ready for a quote or an email.
Each one is easy to make on a spreadsheet and easy to catch with the calculator.

Multiply the amount by 0.18 for the GST, or by 1.18 for the total. On ₹2,268 that's ₹408.24 of GST and ₹2,676.24 in all. Within one state, split the GST equally into 9% CGST and 9% SGST.
Divide the inclusive price by 1.18 to get the taxable value; the difference is the GST. ₹1,180 becomes ₹1,000 plus ₹180 of GST. Don't subtract 18% of the inclusive price: that gives ₹967.60, which is wrong.
Yes. Hosting, VPS, domains, SSL certificates and other IT services are taxed at 18%. Every VirtualCloud price on this site is shown before that 18%, and the invoice lists the GST on its own line.
When the supplier and the place of supply are in different states. IGST is charged at the full rate; within one state the same rate is split equally between CGST and SGST. The total is the same either way.
Add your GSTIN to your account before the invoice is raised and it's reported in our GST returns, so it appears in your GSTR-2B. Whether you can claim the credit depends on how your business uses the service; your accountant can confirm.
No. All the arithmetic happens in your browser. The calculator makes no network request at all, and nothing you type is stored.
Every plan is priced in rupees before GST, and every invoice shows CGST + SGST or IGST separately, with your GSTIN once you add it.
